Antalya, one of Turkey's most popular holiday destinations, is the capital city of the province of the same name and filled with tourist attractions. The popularity of Antalya is largely fuelled by its large selection of sights of interest, its exceptional coastal attractions and its very pleasant Mediterranean beaches.
In the summer season, the city swarms with visitors and the atmosphere in Antalya is lively as holidaymakers and tourists grab their fill of sun, sand and sea. For genuine local history, a trip to the neighbouring ancient city of Perge is a must, where cultural attractions and activities abound.

For sun-seekers and visitors who enjoy activities offered by the sea, Antalya's beaches are ideal attractions at which to spend gorgeous summer days. The main public beach can get busy in the high season, so visitors may want to try the beaches at Bedibi, Tekirova, Phaselis, Patara, Olympos, Kas-Kaputas and Kemer. Some waterfront hotels have their own private beaches.

Antalya's Old Town is the city's historic district, where visitors are assured of seeing its most interesting attractions of yesterday. Known as the Kaleici, the narrow streets of the Old Town area feature the likes of the Seljuk Karatay Mosque, the Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque and the Kesik Minare (Truncated Minaret).

Antalya Tourist Attractions: Ancient City of Perge (Perga)

Sometimes written Pergai or Pergae, the ancient city of Perge is believed to date back to the 4th century BC or earlier. The city, which occupies an elevated position on a hill outside of Antalya, was of significance in Roman imperial times and is also thought to have been home to one of Asia Minor's oldest Christian communities. At just 15 km / 9 miles east of Antalya, the wonderful ancient ruins and archaeological attractions of Perge are a must see and a visit could not come more highly recommended. The temple of Artemis is particularly impressive at Perge, along with the theatre, churches and palaestra (Greek wrestling school). There is even an acropolis in Perge, built during the Bronze Age and still very imposing.

Antalya Tourist Attractions: Ancient City of Phaselis

The ancient city of Phaselis dates back to the 6th century and was originally a base used by Alexander the Great during the winter season. The decaying remains include temples, a theatre, an archway, an amphitheatre and an aqueduct. There is also a small museum onsite offering background on the city.

Much of the land around the city of Antalya is occupied by limestone formations, with two notable ones located a short distance north-west of the city. Visitors making the short trip to the Kirkgöz and Pinarbasi springs are sure to be impressed by the natural beauty of these eroded formations and the soothing sound of the water.

The Beach Park's Aqualand offers the very best way to cool down during the hot Turkish summer months and boasts a series of enormous waterfalls, along with fast water slides of up to 100 metres / 328 feet in length. Also part of the same complex and located on the Antalya beachfront itself, Dolphinland has become a major family attraction in the city and features regular shows with performing dolphins and sea lions, as well as a pair of white whales.

The Dedeman Aquapark is reputed to be the biggest water park in the whole of the Middle East and perfect for a family day out. There are an enormous number of exciting water slides here and also plenty of places to eat, relax and sunbathe. The Dedeman Aquapark is easy to reach and connected by regular dolmuses, which travel between the Fevzi Cakmak Caddesi and the Lara Plaji.
