Antalya Travel and Transport: Antalya International Airport (AYT) pictureThere are plenty of interesting sights not only in the city of Antalya, but also in the wider area of Antalya province and beyond. Making good use of public transportation, visitors can easily travel between all of the main sights, both in and around Antalya.

The bus network provides the most extensive coverage of the city and its surrounds, and can be of great use to visitors wishing to travel both short and longer distances. Tram transport, however, can be even more useful, since it covers many of the top attractions in Antalya and is actually faster. Taxis and hire cars are available for anyone wanting even greater convenience.

Antalya International Airport is the main gateway to the city and is located a short distance from the downtown area. The airport serves a large number of EU destinations and maintains regular connections with Ankara and Istanbul.

The airport offers an excellent selection of passenger facilities, which includes information counters, ATMs, bureaux de change, public telephones, baby changing rooms and a plethora of dining and shopping outlets.

The chief means of travelling into the city from Antalya Airport is by using shuttle buses or taxi transport. Buses run from the airport to popular landmarks and major hotels, while taxi cabs can be hired from a stand located outside the arrivals area of the airport terminal. Some of the city's hotels offer free airport pick-ups for guests, but visitors should check the availability of such services in advance.

In the International Arrivals area of Antalya Airport, visitors will find the desks of Budget, Flo, Hertz and Sixt. Bookings can be made on arrival, but many passengers prefer to arrange a vehicle online before they embark on their journey.

In the city, there are numerous car hire companies operating, with a mix of both international rental companies and smaller independent firms. You can wait to arrange your car after you've checked into your accommodation if you prefer, although picking a vehicle up at the airport is usually a more convenient travel option.

There are international bus services from France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Syria to Istanbul in Turkey, from where passengers can take a connecting bus (or flight) to Antalya. Bus transport from Istanbul to Antalya operates every 30 minutes and this journey takes around 12 hours.

In the city, the public bus network covers all major destinations and many suburban areas, also. Fares are cheap and most vehicles are air-conditioned. Services to remote destinations travel from the main bus terminal.

Antalya Travel and Transport: Travel by Train - Antalya, Turkey TR
Antalya does not have its own train station. In fact, the nearest railway station is actually some 122 km / 76 miles away in Burdur, and so arriving here by train is not really a viable travel option, unless you are prepared to take a connecting bus.

The city does, however, have its own tram system, which runs on a single line and connects the area west of the city centre, around Konyaalti Beach, with the eastern part of the city centre. Tram transport is cheap and operates on the hour and half-hour from 07:00 to 21:00.

Antalya Travel and Transport: Travel by Taxi - Antalya, Turkey TR
Taxi stands can be found across the city and cabs hired from them operate on a metered fare basis. Between midnight and 06:00, journeys are subject to the night rate, which is 50 percent higher than the daytime rate.
